Psalm 103

Psalm 103 is written by David, blessing the LORD from his innermost being with all that is within him. Woven throughout this psalm is praise for forgiveness of sins and redemption from the pit.  We, along with all the angels, are called to praise God for his holiness, goodness, righteousness, justice, mercy, compassion, patience, grace, and steadfast love! The psalmist feels alone as he is derided by enemies. He pours out his heart to the LORD in the midst of his overwhelming afflictions, for his distresses have caused physical and emotional strains. BUT, verse 12 is a turning point as the psalmist shifts his focus to the LORD and His eternal promises. What started as a desperate lament ends with hope for the future. Following are some reflections that may be beneficial to consider when meditating on this psalm: Verses 1-2 What distresses do I need to pour out to the LORD? Verses 3-11 What do these verses show me about possible physical and emotional strains of afflictions in this life? Verses 12-28 How can our perspectives change when we shift from focusing on our troubles to seeing God and His promises instead? What do these verses show us about future generations? Verses 25-27 are quoted in

Psalm 101

Psalm 101 is a psalm of David. It is a royal psalm in which the king vows to rule by following God's example of mercy and justice.  The king will look with favor on the faithful but cut off evildoers. Following are some reflections that may be beneficial to consider when meditating on this psalm: Verses 1-8 What does this psalm teach us about godly leadership? The nine "I will" statements in this psalm demonstrate what the king commits to do in his reign.  What "I will" statements would I write to reflect my commitment to God in whatever role(s) He has placed me? Ultimately, Christ fulfills the role as the merciful and just King.  What do I learn about Christ's reign when reading this psalm from the perspective of Christ speaking?
